Just how did Herman succeed in turning this (rather) normal deal into an absolute Bottom ?

First he makes a bold bid of 5 diamonds.
Then he gets lucky : this does not get punished, as South pushes on to 5 Hearts.
The diamond lead goes to the King. After two rounds of trumps, south plays clubs from the table. At this moment, Herman is (still) awake and he takes his Ace immediately.
Herman now still holds 9 cards. Four of these will bring in the down trick without any problem. The two clubs can't hurt either. What does Herman play : the three of diamonds !
-50 would have been an absolute Top, +450 is an absolute Bottom.

Here's another beauty !
