Region of Barbados

The territory of the country now known as Barbados was British since 1625.
From 1958 to 1962, Barbados was a member of the West Indies Federation, which was promised independence, but was dissolved before that could happen.
On 30 November 1966 the colony became an independent republic.
One athlete from Barbados was present at the 1952 London Olympics, representing Jamaica.
The West Indies Federation sent a team to the 1960 Olympics. From 1968 there were teams from independent Barbados.
