He competed from Tallinn, so the OlyMADMen call him Estonian. However, an Estonian encyclopaedia mentions he came to Tallinn in the army in 1974, and that he lived in Russia (not mentioning his death). Russian Wikipedia calls him Russian, and we may add that his son represented Russia between 2003 and 2008. I shall class him as Russian and have reverted to Russian transliteration.
