He was born in Russia, but grew up in Nikopol, Ukraine. He competed from Kyiv After the break-up of the Soviet Union, Sedykh has represented both the Ukraine and Russia. He married twice, to Russian Athletes and had a daughter with both of them. His daughter Oksana Kondratyeva competed for Russia, while his other daughter Alexia Sedykh competed for France. The World Athletics Website calls him Russian. I shall do the same.
He was world champion in 1991.
The top-three from the Moskva Olympics returned to Seoul eight years later and again formed the entirely Soviet podium.
