The greatest and most versatile fencer of the century, he won more international success in the sport than anyone. He was the son of Beppe Nadi, already a famous fencing master. He was initially taught foil in his father's gymnasium at an extremely young age, but at fifteen he was already skilful in the other weapons. He started international competition in 1911 and won the foil at Stockholm without a single defeat. At Antwerpen, Nadi accomplished one of the great Olympic feats of all time, winning five gold medals. He is the only fencer to have won individual titles at more than one weapon, and also the only one with team titles at all three weapons.
After becoming professional and teaching in Buenos Aires he was, against all precedent, reinstated as Amateur so that he was able to become, from 1935 until his death, president of the Italian Fencing Federation.
