The only female diver to score the diving double at two Games. She did her second double at Melbourne only five months after giving birth to a son. Her daughter Kelly would later win silver and bronze on the springboard.

One of three Irishmen who emigrated to the USA in search of Hammer glory (together with John Flanagan and 1920 gold medal winner Pat Ryan). He managed silver medals with a 16 year interval ! At 45, he was the oldest medal winner in any Athletics contest.
In Stockholm, the shortest of his six throws was 4 meters longer than the throw that won second place.

Member of the "oarsome foursome" that won gold in 1992 and 1996, together with Nicholas Green and James Tomkins. In Sydney the two remaining members of the crew raced in separate boats, and both avoided Steven Redgrave who had chosen their category to win his fifth consecutive gold medal in.
